In his textbook The Science of Mind Ernest Holmes wrote “Do not dwell upon adversity but think plenty into everything, for there is power in the word. Meditate on the things you are doing as being already done–complete and perfect.”

Stop going over and over in your mind how bad things are or have been. It is only in moving to a higher place of thought that you can move on in your life. It is only in letting go of the past that you can move forward. It is only in surrendering to God that your life can change. It is only through prayer and meditation that you can transform your life.

Forgiveness is extremely important if you want to move on to a place of serenity. Look back over your life and go through a process of forgiving for each person who harmed you. Forgive and love yourself.

“Your children are not your children, They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.”  Kahlil Gibran

If you’ve been reading my last few Blogs, you will probably realize that I am in love with the writings of Kahlil Gibran and have been reading and rereading The Prophet.

I have 4 children, a girl and 3 boys. They are grown now. Before I read Gibran I knew that it was necessary for me to release my children. Not release them from my heart, but release them from my advice. I have let them live their own lives. I have attempted to live the best life I could as an example, but not a perfect example. I’ve made many mistakes. But I did the best I could at the time. I am proud of and love  all of them deeply. Now in my later years. I see them. Each is different. Each is special to me. I am grateful that I’ve had them in my life. Like this hummingbird mother, I let them fly.

The Choice We Make

“It may seem we have no control over what happens in our life. But we are the creators of our life. It is our choice whether to remain in bondage or live in freedom.”
Gail Manishor, From Here to Serenity, A Spiritual Guide to Transform Your Life

Gail's Choice

My daughter recently called me to tell me that a high school boyfriend, who had remained a friend died suddenly at the age of forty-five. That same day, my granddaughter’s friend was killed in an automobile accident on the way back from basketball practice. Also on the same day, two police officers, best friends of her uncle, were shot and killed in the line of duty. All of this loss hit my daughter and her friends suddenly. What do you do? Where do you turn? How do you live with this kind of tragedy?

Life comes to us in a series of ups and downs. Life may seem good, bad, terrible, or tragic. This is all a part of life that unfolds. We have to get through it and keep going. In our spiritual practices, we learn how to handle the ups and downs of life through classes, reading, and meditation. A wonderful peace comes from building our awareness of the presence of the indwelling God−always with us, wherever we are and whatever we’re going through. We learn that all is God, and that wherever God is, there is good. We learn to make a choice−we choose to know that as we live in love, honor and integrity we will be guided to our highest good.

There are those we don’t understand the meaning of integrity. They are where they are on their soul’s path. We learn that what looks like tragedy to us is as a thread in the tapestry of life. There are blessings that we can’t foresee, but they are there nevertheless.

Let’s choose to have faith in the Life Force which is within each of us. Let’s choose to take the time to go within and feel that deep peace of Spirit. It’s always there, for we are never alone. What a blessing it is to know that!

Happy 4th of July

“We have thought that outside things controlled us,
when all the time we have had that within which could have changed everything and given us freedom from bondage.”
Ernest Holmes

We were created to be free. We were not created all the same. We are individuals. We each have special gifts and talents. We have freedom of choice, freedom to choose our own path in life.

My Secret Garden is really a freedom garden. I plant whatever I love and/or whatever is not doing very well elsewhere. Everything I plant seems to do very well in the Secret Garden. It’s not organized but is a free flowing riot of color.

May all of you have a wonderful and  joyous 4th of July.
